Alan realized that he had been wasting away the years when he became infected with the banjo late in life.  He quit his dead-end job and got to work, listening to Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe and the other five-string masters.   Alan lives in the foothills in rural Whatcom County where he can plunk away on the porch without offending too many neighbors.
